Romans 8:28 (NIV) states: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Three things to remember when it’s time to accept it’s time to be SELFISH about you:
1. Self-Care and Self-Love:
• Understanding Purpose: By recognizing that God works all things for good, individuals can embrace self-care and self-love, knowing that taking care of themselves is part of fulfilling God’s purpose for their lives.
• Self-Improvement: Caring for one’s well-being can be seen as preparing oneself to better serve others and fulfill God’s calling, aligning with the idea that everything, including self-care, works together for good.
2. Stewardship of Self:
• Healthy Boundaries: Setting boundaries and prioritizing one’s health can be viewed as good stewardship of the life and body God has given, which ultimately benefits the community as well.
• Maximizing Potential: When individuals take care of themselves, they are better equipped to maximize their potential and contribute positively to their surroundings, fulfilling the purpose God has for them.
3. Aligning with God’s Purpose:
• Balanced Focus: Emphasizing self-care within the context of seeking God’s purpose ensures that being “selfish” is not about neglecting others, but about maintaining a balance that allows for sustained and effective service.
• Holistic Well-being: Recognizing that spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being are interconnected, and that God desires wholeness for His followers, aligns self-care with spiritual growth.
